Did Zack Snyder Have Josh Brolin In Mind To Play Batman?

Brolin as Batman

It’s been nearly a month since the Internet almost rage pissed itself over news that Ben Affleck would be the latest actor to adorn himself in the iconic Batman cape and cowl, joining good ol’ Superman for a fun night out on the town.

Now that things have quieted down a bit, there’s more news out of the proverbial pipeline. As one would assume, there were other actors that did not pan out for the role of Batman, Josh Brolin being the most interesting. That’s right, Batman could have been played by the permanently gruff and scowling star of No Country for Old Men and Oldboy. It would have made for an interesting choice too as the man just seems to have a knack for playing emotionally dense characters with psychological issues; not to mention the fact that Brolin just has a very dark look to him.

An excerpt from a recent interview with the Huffington Post has Brolin spilling the beans on the subject:

“We did. I didn’t have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn’t turn out. It’s OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben.”

When asked if he feels he’d rather see Affleck in the hot-seat than himself — in an interesting display of sympathy and humility — Brolin had this to say:

“I think I might have said that like 15 years ago, but now, because of the Internet, man, I just feel for anybody who gets lambasted at that level. I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words.”

The reaction to Brolin donning the dark tights might have gone a little bit differently than the Affleck announcement. Fans might have really embraced Brolin, because he does seem like a natural fit as Batman based on his demeanor alone. Plus, the man is no stranger to controversy as the Internet is still a bit pissed off that an Oldboy remake is happening.

What do you think? Could you see Josh Brolin as Batman?
