Excitement is in the air after speculation that a film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda could be greenlit by Universal started spreading on social media. Rumors suggested that this film could receive a higher budget due to the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

It’s no secret why fans are excited to see this Nintendo title on the big screen, especially since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released just weeks ago. Fans hoped that Eiji Aonuma, the producer of The Legend of Zelda games, would oversee the project, just like how Shigeru Miyamoto was involved in the Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Unfortunately, not everyone is keen on the idea of Illumination working on this film adaptation, claiming that the studio is the “least qualified” to give this role-playing game the movie adaptation it deserves.

Regardless, fans remain hopeful that The Legend of Zelda will receive the film adaptation it truly deserves. And considering the success of previous Nintendo adaptations, such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Detective Pikachu, it’s probably safe to assume that this game film is in safe hands, especially if Nintendo is going to be hands-on during production once again.

At the moment, this is all speculation and neither Nintendo nor Universal have made any official announcements. Let’s not forget that Shigeru Miyamoto told the press back in April to not to expect new movie announcements anytime soon. If this movie does end up getting greenlit and enters pre-production, fingers crossed that Chris Pratt isn’t cast to play Link.
