Zoe Saldana Was Almost Cast As Lois Lane In Man Of Steel

Zoe Saldana is known for being the queen of the Hollywood franchises after her roles in Avatar, Star Trek and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She could have added another one to collection, though, if she had landed the part of Lois Lane in Man of Steel which director Zack Snyder has revealed the actress was once up for.

Zoe Saldana’s known for being the queen of the Hollywood franchises after her roles in Avatar, Star Trek and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She could’ve added another one to collection, though, if she’d landed the part of Lois Lane in Man of Steel, which director Zack Snyder has revealed the actress was once up for.

In an interview with Comic Book Debate, the filmmaker spoke about what Amy Adams brought to the table as Supes’ girlfriend, referencing the fact that the star inspired Lois’ subplot in Batman V Superman which saw her investigating African terrorism. Snyder then casually revealed that, before Adams was cast, the choice was between her and Saldana.

“Amy actually inspired that opening scene in Batman v Superman. She mentioned journalists who have been in war zones and we went along with it. At a time, it was between her and Zoe Saldana.”

When questioned about Saldana coming so close to being Lois in the DCEU, Snyder laughed and added: “They’re totally different, but their presence is super strong.”

If Saldana had been cast, she would’ve been the first non-Caucasian actress to portray Lois in live-action media, foreshadowing Snyder’s later casting of the Israeli Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and the Polynesian Jason Momoa as Aquaman. The Latina might have made a great Lois, but Adams is definitely terrific in the role, so things probably worked out for the best. Besides, her commitments to DC likely would’ve prevented Saldana from signing up as Gamora for 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy

As for Adams’ Lois Lane, it seems likely that Justice League will prove to be the swansong of her version of The Daily Planet’s best reporter. Apart from all those rumors that Henry Cavill won’t be returning as Superman, Adams herself has said she believes the Last Son of Krypton and his universe is being rebooted by Warner Bros.
