Composed of samples of tracks from the likes of The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris, Beyonce, Drake, Rihanna, Michael Posner, Justin Timberlake and Flo-Rida, “Summermash ’16” accomplishes a fusion between a veritable laundry list of radio hits. The result is a mashup that seamlessly combines each element into a whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts.

Be that as it may, the time and effort that undoubtedly went into “Summermash ’16” seems like it could be better applied to something that doesn’t sound so watered down. The marketing appeal of piggybacking on all the listed artists’ combined star power is obvious enough, but the resulting mashup ultimately sounds more riskless than any of their individual tracks ever did.

If you did happen to enjoy “Summermash ’16,” however, keep your eye on DJ Earworm six or so months down the road, as he’s sure to release another period-capturing mashup closer to the turn of the year.
