Drake has released a new single from his sophomore album Take Care. Coming out October 24th, the album has a lot to live up to. The Young Money star made an enormous impact with his debut album, Thank Me Later. Can he live up to it with Take Care?
Honestly, I’m not sure. Headlines is an alright song but the the Boi-1da produced track doesn’t really stand out.
I like it better than the last single we heard, Marvin’s Room, but I can’t say I love it. Lyrically it’s good but overall it just feels a bit too bland, especially when compared to some of the explosive singles that we heard on Thank Me Later.
Headlines isn’t a bad track, it just doesn’t hold up to some of the instant classics from Thank Me Later. The bouncy beat feels stale and it really doesn’t make much of an impression. Play Headlines and then play Over or Find Your Love right after, you’ll see what I mean.
“I might be too strung out on compliments, overdosed on confidence/Started not to give a fuck and stop fearing the consequence
Drinking every night because we drink to my accomplishments/Faded way too long, I’m floatin’ in and out of consciousness
And they sayin’ I’m back, I agree with that.”
Hopefully Drizzy is saving his best stuff for when the album releases. If Marvin’s Room and Headlines are representative of Drake’s entire sophomore album, I don’t think Aubrey will be able to live up to his debut.
What do you think?
