Exclusive Video Interview With Porter Robinson

Though he's only 22-years-old, Porter Robinson is already a force to be reckoned with and is quickly becoming one of the most interesting and exciting artists in EDM. Starting off his career with technically impressive tracks, the DJ soon caught the attention of heavy-hitting producers like Skrillex, who signed Porter to his record label OWSLA for a one-EP (titled Spitfire) deal back in 2011.

Crashing Beatport’s servers upon release, Spitfire quickly shoved Robinson into the spotlight and really put him on the map. A few festival appearances later and the DJ soon began to find that he was growing tired of the current state of EDM. And so, in 2012, he completely changed things up and delivered Language and Easy, two moving and emotional tracks that laid the groundwork for what would eventually become his debut album, Worlds.

Released through Astralwerks and Virgin EMI on August 12th, 2014, Porter’s disc captured the hearts of fans and critics worldwide, proving that he was a true musical prodigy and giving us hope for the future of the genre.

Currently, the DJ is on tour promoting the album and when he stopped in Toronto last weekend for a show, I had the chance to sit down with him for an exclusive interview. We spoke at length about the inspiration for Worlds, why he skipped the festival circuit this year, how he feels about being called “the future of EDM’ and much more.

Check out what Porter Robinson had to say in the video above, and be sure to pick up Worlds if you haven’t already. It really is a fantastic album.
