The Voice season 23 has garnered some attention, and that is in part to one of their contestants Gina Miles. The young singer has made waves on the show ever since her first appearance in the blind audition singing Katy Perry’s ‘The One That Got Away’ which earned her a chair spin from both Kelly Clarkson and Niall Horan, with the singer choosing the latter as her coach.
She has since grown drastically as a performer earning the respect of the other two coaches Chance the Rapper and Blake Shelton. Miles had the latter on his feet last week during the playoff round where she gave a breathtakingly haunting rendition of Chris Isaac’s ‘Wicked Game.’ After this week’s live performance she has now secured her spot in the semifinals, and from there who knows? But what do we already know about this young talent?
She is originally from Paxton, Illinois, but when she decided to take her music more seriously in high school she moved in with her aunt in Sacramento. She was always set to join the world of music growing up with her father who DJs every weekend, leading Miles to ask to join him once she turned 14, helping him set up his equipment. She has already released her own EP back in 2022, titled ‘Who Are You’ which consists of five tracks and consists of her own original music.
How old is Gina Miles?
The amazing thing about this talented young woman is that she is only 18 years old. To have such a mature voice at her age is impressive, and also means she is right at the precipice of her music career, a career that could really take off thanks to the publicity and training she is receiving from The Voice.
The singer has been a part of team Niall since her blind audition and is considered his secret weapon in the competition, though that doesn’t mean she has formed any major rivalries with the other singers. In fact, she is reportedly quite close with fellow contestant Kala Banham, who she faced in a song battle, with the latter losing to Miles, but ending up being saved by Clarkson. The two did a Q&A together on Banham’s YouTube channel discussing their battle where they sang Bonny Iver’s ‘Skinny Love.’
During the Q&A, Miles stated,
“There’s something about achieving a mutual goal with somebody that really bonds you two together. You just get to know someone and know their voice so much when you’re working on songs with them.”
You can vote for Miles, or whoever is your preferred artist, starting from last night by using The Voice app, or heading to NBC.com/VoiceVote, to see them in the show’s finale which will air next week, Tuesday, May 23 at 9/8c on NBC.
