Jim Morrison has received a posthumous pardon from the Florida Clemency Board, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The lead singer of one of the greatest rock bands of all time, who has been dead for nearly 40 years, had been previously sentenced to six months in jail along with a $500 fine for an incident in a March 1, 1969 show in Miami. At the time authorities claimed he had exposed himself to the crowd.

That fact is disputed by many who attended the show. While some say he in fact did expose himself, many say he just teased the crowd by fiddling with his belt. Either way, with the amount of stuff that rockers have pulled since, even if he did perform these actions back then, they are miniscule now and probably wouldn’t have even made the news, much less caused criminal proceedings. It is unclear why they decided to pardon him at this time.

Jim Morrison died in 1971 at the age of 27.
