When it comes to melodic, soulful dance music, Kaskade is king. The Chicago native recently enlisted the help of Canadian producer Felix Cartel and vocalist Ophelia K for his latest single “Fakin It,” delivering a gorgeous dance ballad with a shimmering production and a light, airy vibe.
The whispered tones of Ophelia K’s voice serve as the focal point throughout “Fakin It,” helping to establish the somber mood and minimal production work. A soothing guitar riff and plodding piano chords kick off the percussion free intro while a basic house pattern is introduced during the drops, but the two producers never let the beats overpower the song’s melodic content.
The use of light percussion and organic instrumentation throughout “Fakin It” gives the tune a post-tropical feel, placing emphasis on songwriting and atmosphere. While you won’t be hearing anyone refer to Kaskade‘s latest as a banger, “Fakin It” proves itself as a worthy listen with its unique production and soothing vocals.
