After talks have been in the works for months, Moldovan progressive house mainstay Max Vangeli has finally announced the launch of his new record label, NoFace Records. The imprint makes for a joint venture between Vangeli and Armin Van Buuren-founded colossus Armada Music – but if their first release in the form of Vangeli’s own “Shine” is any indicator, the sound of NoFace might not be as predictable as you might expect.

“Shine” is hard to put your finger on. Built on the foundation of a breakbeat that almost calls forth the vibe of big beat anthems from the turn of the millennium, the track features vocals by Francis Marvel and Kacie Marie that endow in its warm rhythms a radio-friendly degree of mass appeal. It certainly doesn’t match the progressive house bravado of Max Vangeli’s other tracks, indicating that perhaps the new label head is seeking to broaden his horizons in a meaningful way.
