Mikey Welsh Passes Away

Former Weezer bass guitarist Mikey Welsh was found dead in his room at the Raffaello Hotel in Chicago on Saturday. The cause of his death is still unknown, though it follows a suspected drug overdose. No reports of foul play have surfaced as of yet.

Welsh played in numerous bands, though none were as successful as Weezer. He joined Weezer, a post-grunge metal band, in 1998. After the release of a new album and subsequent tour, Welsh was admitted to psychiatric hospital in 2001 due to a serious nervous breakdown. The stress of touring and drug use were reportedly the cause.
