Protocol Recordings head honcho Nicky Romero is gearing up to release his new track this week, and several days ago he posted a quick preview of it to his SoundCloud account. Featuring Nile Rodgers, the song goes by the apt title of “Future Funk,” and brings with it a fresh new sound for the producer.
Boasting funky guitar riffs and a catchy, if somewhat generic melody, it’s a nice fusion of styles that results in another solid effort from Romero, following the excellent “Lighthouse” and “Harmony.”
The song is a definite departure from the producer’s usual progressive/electro sound, but in an age where so much of what’s put out just sounds recycled, we’re happy to see Nicky trying something new.
