Tiësto and The Chainsmokers seem to have embarked on quite an involved relationship as of late. The dance music veteran recently brought the American duo onstage to debut an all-new collaboration, and he’s followed it up with his own remix of their summer hit “Let You Go.”
Tiësto’s version keeps much of the same flowery elements of the original, adding only minor edits to most of the verse. After the chorus, a swelling buildup leads into a barbaric synth lead whose strong big room house inclination clashes considerably with the delicate vocals contributed by Great Good Fine Okay. The second time it loops it sounds a little more developed than the first, but still detracts from the overall tone of the original.
While The Chainsmokers have turned a major corner as DJ/producers recently, what Tiësto has brought to the table for his collaborations with the artists fails to pay justice to the sincerity of their recent releases. Seeing as how he’s resigned himself to the main stage bangers that an increasing proportion of the EDM world find to be passé, perhaps the duo are better off looking at him through the rearview mirror.
