2010 has given us a wide variety of music thus far. From Kings of Leon to Eminem, artists from all spectrums of the musical world have been dropping new albums this year, and their sounds are taking us into the next decade of music.
Here is my list of my picks for best albums which have been released thus far.
The rest of November and the month of December will truly show us what kind of year 2010 will be musically. Many big names have saved their albums releases for the end of 2010. Here are the ones I am looking forward to the most.
1.) KANYE WEST – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy:
Without question, the most anticipated album of the year for me. It is fair to say that if Kanye scores with this album, his place in hip hop lore will be secured. After a brief sabbatical from the music industry following the now infamous Taylor Swift incident, Kanye returned a few months ago and began one of the biggest self-started marketing campaigns ever. From joining Twitter, to making a short movie – Runaway, to just dominating the media, Kanye-mania began to take hold and is reaching fever pitches as we get closer to his album release date, and the album has been leaked online.
ALBUM RELEASE DATE: November 22, 2010
2.) MICHAEL JACKSON – Michael:
The highly anticipated posthumous Michael Jackson album will finally arrive in December. The album is controversial, just like the King of Pop always was. Joe Jackson’s (Michael’s father) lawyer issued a statement recently saying that Michael had repeatedly said he did not want these tracks released as they were either incomplete or not up to his lofty standards. In addition, Micahel’s mother and his two children told TMZ.com that they believe that the voice on some or all of the album’s tracks was not Michael’s. Obviously, the label has denied this. Either way, anytime a Michael Jackson album comes out, it is big news. To hear one of the tracks titled Breaking News, click here.
Album Release Date: December 14, 2010
3.) NICKI MINAJ – Pink Friday:
Nicki Minaj, born in Trinidad but raised in Queens, has blown up this year from relative obscurity. She has easily become the best female MC since Lil Kim and Foxy Brown. Her style is unique and her rhyming skills rival many male MC’s. I’m betting this album blows up.
Album Release Date: November 23, 2010
4.) BLACK EYED PEAS – The Beginning:
The Beginning will be a sequel to the Black Eyed Peas last album, The E.N.D., as well as being the band’s sixth album. will i.am’s style continues to evolve, and he must be mentioned as one of music’s best producers. I have only heard the single, “The Time”, which was decent enough I guess.
Album Release Date: November 30, 2010
5.) KID CUDI – Man on the Moon Part 2 The Legend of Mr. Rager:
Kid Cudi’s style is unique and fresh. Perhaps so much so, that he is not fully embraced by the hip-hop community as his style is almost something else in itself. Regardless, I find his music to be filled with deeper meanings and quite catchy. Besides, Cudi promises this album will be much darker. Either way, I will be getting his album pronto, and I can’t wait to hear it.
