What is it with Nate Dogg samples in dance music tracks lately? SNBRN incorporated one from the late rapper’s “Gangsta Walk” into one of his tropical/future house hybrids of its namesake last month, but Wax Motif has repurposed it as a wobble-heavy bass house track in his new remix.
For what it’s worth, though, the samples definitely work in this context as well. Metallic effects applied to cuts of the original verse compliment the heavily modulated bass line, resulting in a danceable groove that still retains enough swagger to hold the attention of the EDM generation.
What’s more, the bridge of the song features an inventive transition into a slower hip-hop rhythm that showcases a longer section of the original sample. In an industry of one-trick ponies, it’s refreshing to see a producer find such a creative way to demonstrate their stylistic versatility.
