What So Not‘s remaining member, Emoh Instead, has proven not to be a slouch act in the absence of Flume’s creative influence. This week, the Australian DJ/producer dropped a remix of fellow Aussies RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom” that measures up to the outfit’s earlier releases.
A sample from the original song’s crooning vocal is accompanied at first by meandering, ambient synth melodies. At the drop, however, a sidechain-compressed pad synth progression is punctuated by exotic vocal samples in the highs that evoke primal emotions.
The “Innerbloom” remix is What So Not’s first release since the Gemini EP bookended Emoh Instead’s split with Flume. He debuted it at Insomniac Events’ most recent edition of Countdown New Years Eve in SoCal, but has now released the track itself for stream and download.
