Bigger is better, right? Well, Nintendo certainly thinks so. During its Nintendo Direct Japan broadcast, the company announced a new version of the Nintendo 3DS that simply dwarfs the standard model. The new top screen has jumped up to 4.88 inches, a sizeable increase from the 3.5 inches on the original model. The bottom screen has also received similar treatment, expanding from 3 inches to 4.18 inches.

While the lack of a second analog pad is a bit of a letdown, it’s hard not to get excited over the bigger screens. It’s priced at 18,900 yen and is slated to release in Japan on July 28th in white, red/black and silver/black.

Those of us in the US will have to wait until August 19th to grab what will be rebranded as the 3DS XL. We’ll be able to pick it up in either red or blue, with a $199.99 price tag.
