A circus performer’s life-threatening stunt goes horribly wrong as she plummets to the ground

She was in freefall.

A performer with Circo Robatiny was rushed to the hospital after a stunt went horribly wrong, causing her to plummet to the ground. The acrobat, Aliane Dias, was performing an aerial routine on Saturday where she was suspended in the air by her hair. After a sudden freefall, the audience gasped as she hit the floor. She was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital, where the circus announced on Sunday that she was in “good condition and already recovering.”

Per TMZ, the circus also noted that the mishap was a result of “human error,” with the performer admitting that the tying of the cable was done “differently from usual,” which caused it to come undone. The circus did not explain why the performer tied the cord differently. Despite the accident, Circo Robatiny continued its scheduled shows on Sunday and will be performing again this Friday and over the weekend.

The whole thing is an absolute tragedy, and it goes to show that even when everything seems perfect, a small mistake can have a catastrophic outcome. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in the audience and see that happen; it must have been an absolutely terrifying experience to witness. To be fair, human error is always a possibility in these types of shows, but for it to lead to a life-threatening fall is just awful. You have to wonder what was going through her mind in the moments leading up to the fall.

A circus performer fell from a frightening distance

It is honestly surprising that the circus decided to continue with the show as scheduled. I would have expected them to at least take a break for a few days to let everyone recover, but I guess the show must go on. It is also interesting that they were so quick to blame the performer for the mistake. While it is important to be transparent about what happened, it seems a little insensitive to immediately point the finger at the person who just had a near-death experience.

On the other hand, it’s also important to remember that these performers are professionals who take their jobs very seriously. They practice for countless hours to make sure that their stunts are as safe as possible. For her to admit that she tied the cable differently from the protocol means she knew she was taking a risk. However, it’s also possible that she was under a lot of pressure and felt like she had to do something different to make the stunt more exciting.

Injuries can be funny, as we’ve seen, but it seems like we’re seeing many people in danger while dangling in the air. Luckily, this ended up okay.

No matter the reason, the outcome is the same, and it serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that circus performers face every day. While the acrobat is recovering, the whole incident should also prompt a discussion about safety protocols in the circus industry.
