A giant inflatable pumpkin rolled loose down a street in Cary, North Carolina, forcing an Uber driver to pull over and intervene. The orange decoration escaped from a local farm event and began rolling down the road, creating a scene straight out of a comedy movie. Strong winds reportedly set the runaway pumpkin in motion, as reported by The Nerd Stash.
Phillips Farms of Cary shared the footage of the inflatable pumpkin on TikTok, and it has quickly become the most popular video on its account. The farm is a fourth-generation, family-owned business managed by Michael Phillips, who frequently posts updates about farm activities and events.
The video shows the Uber driver and his passenger spotting the giant object in the distance. As the inflatable pumpkin closes in on their vehicle, the driver starts to worry about his car. “It’s gonna hit us,” the Uber driver said with a hint of excitement in his voice, later adding, “The pumpkin’s gonna hit my car and damage my car.”
The Uber driver ended up jumping out to chase it down
He quickly threw the car into reverse while the inflatable pumpkin kept barreling toward them. The driver screamed, while his passenger urged him to turn around before it reached the car. Despite the panic, the pair ended up laughing at the sight, as an inflatable decoration posed little real threat to the vehicle.
The inflatable pumpkin had just finished its duties at the farm’s annual Pumpkinfest when it broke loose. A man on the side of the road eventually jumped over a fence to intercept the rolling giant. He backed off when he realized how fast the pumpkin was traveling.
He tried again shortly after. However, he was unsuccessful, and the pumpkin continued rolling toward a parking lot filled to the brim with cars. Watching from behind the wheel, the Uber driver worried aloud that the man could get hurt and asked his passenger whether he should help.
Recognizing the potential for a mess, the Uber driver pulled over and hopped out. He joined the other man on the scene, and the two worked together to stop the runaway decoration before it could damage the surrounding vehicles.
The farm’s caption joked that Pumpkinfest went a little off-kilter this year and thanked Uber for helping bring the inflatable pumpkin home. The company has drawn more negative attention online lately, including a clip of an Uber driver going AWOL on a waiting passenger.
