AlunaGeorge have achieved a remarkable degree of worldwide renown since DJ Snake remixed their 2013 single, “You Know You Like It” (which, oddly enough, didn’t even reach the mainstream until last year). Over the years, the duo have wracked up a series of big-name collaborations, the latest of which being their new release, “Mean What I Mean.”
NYC rapper Leikeli47 and Chicago singer/songwriter/emcee Dreezy contribute incendiary verses on the track which are interspersed with Aluna Francis’ own vocal musings. A rich, organic sound characterizes the whole of the production, which follows a moombahton-reminiscent drum pattern.
Francis told Annie Mac that the track was inspired by a pickup attempt that she had rejected, but then wrote the song after thinking of a better way she could have handled the situation. Seeing as how one of Leikeli47’s verses goes “Macaroni Tony in a ditch ’cause he grabbed my ass and called me a bitch,” we’ll go on the record saying that we think she handled it just fine the way she did the first time.
“Mean What I Mean” is one of the tracks on AlunaGeorge‘s sophomore LP, I Remember, which will come out sometime in September. After listening to it in the SoundCloud embed above, let us know what you think of the track by commenting below.
