Although FX is a station normally known for their menagerie of excellent comedies (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Louie, Wilfred), they’ve also had their fair share of captivating dramas, ranging from Rescue Me to Nip/Tuck.
The latter, for those of you who don’t know, was the show that gave Glee creator Ryan Murphy his first commercial breakthrough and made him a name to watch. Now, with the runaway success of his musical-comedy still fresh, it looks like Murphy has teamed up with frequent collaborator Brad Falchuk to work on an interesting little show called American Horror Story.
The gist of the show is that a family moves to a house in Los Angeles that, of course, ends up being haunted. While this isn’t anything terribly new or innovative, the true entertainment value lies in finding out the mystery of what happened to the previous owners to cause the haunting. For a movie, this sounds very run of the mill and just plain stupid. But as a TV show, it could be very successful.
There aren’t very many horror themed fiction programs to hold our attention, and given the right amount of time and attention, American Horror Story could become another hit for FX. Since it can break out of the normal hour-and-a-half mold most horror movies are stuck in, this has the chance to properly develop its characters and give the mystery ample time to develop and unfold.
To add to the appeal, the show has enlisted the likes of stars Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, and Evan Peters to round out the cast. All of this isn’t new news, but the release of a new trailer for the show, which is to premiere on Wednesday, October 5, is ready to garner some well-needed attention for American Horror Story. Featuring some creepy audio and freaky imagery, the preview sets the show up to be an interesting watch.
