The employer of a woman in Alabama who was caught on camera taking almost a whole bowl of candy has confirmed that she has been dismissed from her job after she lied to her boss. The door cam video, which showed an adult woman taking the majority of the contents from a candy bucket left on a porch for Halloween, was brought to the attention of her workplace after it was tagged in the video.
The video, which was posted to Facebook by Taylor Wilson, showed a small group of people arriving at the house. Two women are seen approaching the porch, with the first taking a handful of candy. The second woman is then seen taking a handful of candy and putting them in her bag. She then took several more handfuls, leaving a little amount of candy left in the bucket.
In the video caption, Wilson wrote, “Greedy adults stole almost the entire bowl of candy!!! literally left almost nothing for the children!! absolutely pathetic.” The adult in the video was also seen wearing a Sakana Sushi Bar & Grill shirt. Wilson also tagged the restaurant in the video description.
A spokesperson for the woman’s employers later addressed the issue, claiming that she had been dismissed, not for taking the candy, but for allegedly lying about returning the candy as well as lying about apologizing to the homeowner.
Sakana Sushi Bar & Grill confirmed the employee had been fired
The Alabama restaurant subsequently released a statement on Facebook addressing the incident. “We do not condone any behavior that takes away from children or negatively impacts the community,” the statement read. The restaurant also claimed that the incident was being investigated: “We are looking into this and will address it appropriately if anyone associated with Sakana was involved.”
Following the restaurant’s investigation, Sakana Sushi Bar & Grill initially confirmed with AL.com that the person in the video had been an off-duty employee. The restaurant also claimed that the employee said that she had apologized to the homeowner and returned the candy. However, Wilson later spoke out, claiming that she had not received an apology or the candy from the employee.
After finding out this information, Sakana Sushi Bar & Grill said that it had decided to dismiss the employee, claiming that her alleged dishonesty was “unacceptable.” A restaurant spokesperson told the outlet, “we basically told her that she can no longer be working with us anymore” due to her alleged lies.
