‘I am so shook right now’: Virginia Woman’s critical tire shop error saved her something more valuable than money

"I was sitting there ready, ready to camp out."

A Virginia woman says a Discount Tire outlet caught a mistake when she booked her appointment, saving her something more valuable than money — time — and possibly even preventing a dangerous driving situation.

Jessica Battle, who posts on TikTok as @jessica.battle, shared the story in a viral video describing her early-morning appointment to replace all four tires before an upcoming state inspection. “I am so shook right now,” Battle said in the video. “I was floored, actually.”

A packed tire shop — and a surprise

Battle explained that she scheduled an 8 a.m. appointment to replace her worn tires, but arrived to find the shop already packed with customers waiting in line. “I look at the door, and it said, you know, they open at 8. So I’m just like, dang. Like, okay, y’all are packed,” she said.

After checking in via text for her appointment, an employee quickly pulled her out of line and began the service process. During the appointment, she realized she had accidentally purchased the wrong tires, but the shop had the correct ones in stock and fixed the issue. The staff also replaced her windshield wipers and gave her a small discount, she said.

Finished in minutes, not hours

Battle said she expected to wait at least two hours and came prepared with coffee, water, and a fully charged laptop. Instead, the shop finished replacing all four tires in about 20 minutes.

“He was, like, handing me my keys… their car’s ready to go,” she said. “That was fast. Haha. I was shook.” She added that she was “so blown away” by how fast the service was, especially with a line of customers already waiting when the doors opened.

“I was sitting there ready, ready to camp out — and then 20 minutes later, they’re done with my car,” she said.

Why the wrong tires could have been dangerous

While the mix-up was quickly resolved, experts say installing the wrong tires on a vehicle can be more than just an inconvenience; it can be dangerous.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, tires are the only part of a vehicle that touches the road, and using improperly sized or incorrect tires can affect handling, braking, traction, and overall vehicle safety. Tire-related crashes still cause hundreds of deaths each year in the United States.

Automotive experts also warn that mismatched or incorrect tire sizes can reduce stability, interfere with braking performance, and make a vehicle harder to control in emergencies or bad weather. In some cases, incorrect tires can even damage a vehicle’s suspension or drivetrain over time.

In other words, catching the mistake before installation may have prevented a potentially dangerous driving situation.

Battle said she was grateful not only for the fast service but also for the staff catching the tire issue and getting her on the road quickly. “I’m just so grateful that I was able to get in there and out of there in less than an hour despite there being everybody and their mothers in there,” she said.

In the end, the tire shop didn’t just save her money with a small discount — they saved her time, prevented a possible tire mistake, and gave her something she didn’t expect that morning: a full morning of sleep. “That was crazy,” she said. “Now time to go pass out.”
