A woman posted a TikTok video complaining about having to add air to her own tires at a Discount Tire shop, but the internet did not side with her. The 28-second video was posted last Thursday by Atrevino (@atrevino66) and got over 39,000 views. Most viewers criticized her for complaining about the situation.
In the video, filmed from inside her car, an older man is shown outside the shop using the air pump to fill his tires. “So, now we have to put air in our own tires,” she says in the clip, adding, “It’s too cold outside for Discount Tire.” She seemed upset that employees weren’t doing this free service for her because of the cold weather.
According to Motor1, people online were harsh in their responses. Many called her entitled and lazy for expecting employees to do something she could easily do herself. One user named MrCubs got 721 likes for asking, “How can I be a victim today.” Another comment that said “The ENTITLEMENT” received 451 likes.
People weren’t buying her complaint about the cold weather
One former Discount Tire employee reveals they do fill tire for their customers when they are free. “I used to work at discount. We do it for you when we are not busy. Getting those cars out the bay as quickly as possible comes first. Sorry not sorry,” they commented.
Tire shops don’t make much profit, so when they’re busy with customers buying new tires or paid services, workers have to focus on jobs that make money first.
Tire shops sometimes see up to 60 cars daily and face staffing problems. When workers are busy with paid jobs, free courtesy services often become self-service. Similar complaints about service expectations have gone viral before, like when a husband pressure-washed his wife’s car and made a shocking discovery.
Many commenters on TikTok asked why she couldn’t just do it herself. “Oh no!! God forbid you have to get out of your car to put free air in your tire instead of paying for the air at a gas station…”: one person wrote. Most people see putting air in tires as basic maintenance that anyone can handle, especially when the equipment is free to use.
The cold weather she mentioned actually hurt her argument. Tire shops get busier with air requests when it’s cold because tires lose about 1-2 PSI for every 10-degree temperature drop.
This means employees are even less available for free services during cold weather. The older man in her video was handling the task just fine, which made her weather complaint seem weak. The backlash she received shows how quickly people online will call out what they see as entitled behavior, much like when Melania Trump laughed at complaints about expectations in relationships.
