It’s only a few short weeks until the war of the war games begins when Battlefield 3 hits retail shelves on October 25th. DICE has decided to tease gamers a little bit today by revealing full details on the Battleblog on the multiplayer modes that will be featured when the game ships.

We already know the game is going to be absolutely huge, at least enough to require two discs on the Xbox 360 and have enough unlockables to last for an entire console generation.

There will be five multiplayer modes at launch. The classic Battlefield modes Rush and Conquest have returned, as well as the expected Team Deathmatch mode. The modes will be playable across nine maps, all of which will “adjust” to the type of game that’s being played. Think the way that the massive Forge World map on Halo: Reach changes based on the gametype.

The modes are detailed as followed:

Team Deathmatch
Availability:
 On all 9 maps
Players: 24 (12 vs. 12)
Focus: Team Based Infantry Combat
Goal: Eliminate a set number of enemy combatants
Winning the game: The team that reaches the set kill number first is declared the winner

Squad Deathmatch
Availability:
 On all 9 maps
Players: 16 (4 squads of 4)
Focus: Squad Based Infantry Combat
Goal: Eliminate a set number of enemy combatants
Winning the game: The squad that reaches the set kill number first is declared the winner

Rush
Availability:
 On all 9 maps
Players: 24/32 (Console/PC)
Focus: Objective Based All-out Warfare
Goal: Attack/defend M-COM stations
Winning the game: Destroy all M-COM stations/Deplete the attacker’s tickets (Attackers/Defenders)

Squad Rush
Availability:
 On all 9 maps
Players: 8 (4 vs. 4)
Focus: Squad Based Infantry Combat
Goal: Attack/defend M-COM stations
Winning the game: Destroy all M-COM stations/Deplete the attacker’s tickets (Attackers/Defenders)

Conquest
Availability:
 On all 9 maps
Players: 24/32 or 64 (Console/PC)
Focus: Objective Based All-out Warfare
Goal: Capture and Hold Flags
Winning the game: Deplete opposing team’s tickets

And remember, besides boasting a boost in maximum players to 64, players on the PC will also get slightly larger maps due to the Xbox/PS3 capabilities as opposed to a gaming PC.

DICE also made sure to mention a few modifiers to appease gamers that like to play a certain way. For example, those who don’t want to play with vehicles enabled can flip on the “Infantry Only” option. Those who want to lose the HUD and want to exercise their twitchy trigger finger with bigger risk and rewards can flip on “Hardcore Mode.”

And if Battlefield 3 is structured anything like Battlefield: Bad Company 2, it means we’ll be getting plenty of modes and maps as DLC after the release.

What say you, gamers? Are you as excited as I am for October 25th to come around?
