‘Bottomless beverages’: Man dies on cruise after being served 33 drinks, turns out he’d paid for one package that made it all possible

He should have been cut off.

A 35-year-old man named Michael Virgil died on a Royal Caribbean cruise after he was served 33 alcoholic drinks. Court papers show he had bought the cruise line’s unlimited drink package. His death has now been ruled a homicide, and people are asking serious questions about how cruise companies handle their all-you-can-drink deals.

According to the NY Post, Virgil was on the Navigator of the Seas ship heading to Mexico with his fiancĂ©e and his 7-year-old son, who has autism. When they got on the ship, their room wasn’t ready yet. Crew members told them to wait at a bar. His fiancĂ©e later took their son to check on the room, leaving Virgil alone at the bar.

During that time, Virgil was served 33 drinks. He had paid for Royal Caribbean’s Deluxe Beverage Package, which costs between $55 and $115 per person each day. This package lets passengers get unlimited cocktails, beer, wine, and other drinks without paying extra for each one.

The package promised bottomless drinks with no real limits

After drinking heavily, Virgil got extremely drunk and couldn’t find his room. He became angry and started attacking crew members and passengers. The lawsuit says he even threatened to kill people on the ship.

The ship’s security and medical team responded quickly. They tackled Virgil to the ground and stood on his body with their full weight. Then they gave him a shot of a sedative drug called Haloperidol and sprayed him several times with pepper spray. This incident adds to growing concerns about cruise company safety and passenger treatment.

Virgil died while being held by the crew. Medical reports say he couldn’t breathe properly and his heart and lungs stopped working. The cause of death was listed as lack of oxygen, breathing failure, and heart problems.

His family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Royal Caribbean. They claim the crew used too much force, which directly caused his death. The family wants money for lost income, medical costs, and their suffering. Questions about how celebrities and public figures face criticism often reveal double standards in how different people are treated.

Royal Caribbean has not made any public comments about the case. They say they don’t talk about lawsuits that are still going through court.
