Breaking Bad star spent time with RJ Mitte days before his death. Then he reveals what he wishes he had done: ‘I would have tied him up’

'I love you and I’ll miss you little brother.'

RJ Mitte, the actor known for his role as Walter White Jr in the hit series Breaking Bad, died by suicide on October 12. His representative confirmed the news, noting that the 34-year-old was found at his home in Brownsville, Texas.

His co-star Luis Moncada shared with TMZ a personal look at the final days he spent with Mitte. The two actors met up in New Mexico earlier this month to enjoy a hot-air balloon ride at the 54th annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Moncada, who played the hitman Marco Salamanca in the show, explained that he first felt something was wrong when they crossed paths at a Comic Con event in England several weeks prior.

When they reunited in New Mexico, Moncada grew increasingly worried about his friend. He went as far as inviting the disability activist to stay at his home with his son, thinking it might offer him a chance to decompress away from the stress of work and other daily pressures. Mitte declined the offer because he needed to get back home after being on the road for more than a month.

Moncada recalled the final conversation they had while standing outside the Albuquerque airport

Before they parted ways, Moncada urged his friend to reach out to him whenever he felt he needed someone to talk to. Mitte promised he would call, and as he walked away, he told Moncada, “I love you, man.” Reflecting on that final moment, Moncada told TMZ that he wished he could have done more. “If I could, I’m not going to lie, if I could, I would have tied him up and brought him home,” he said. In a tribute posted on Instagram, Moncada wrote: “RIP RJ. I love you and I’ll miss you little brother.”

Other members of the Breaking Bad cast have also shared their grief. Giancarlo Esposito posted a tribute on Instagram, writing that Mitte would live forever in his heart. He expressed that he would remember the laughter and the pure joy they shared, as well as the magnitude of Mitte’s kindness and his dedication to helping others. “No words can express what your friendship has meant to me,” Esposito added.

Bryan Cranston, who played Mitte’s on-screen father, also shared his thoughts on the loss. He described the death as devastating and mentioned that the two had been exchanging messages just a few weeks ago with plans to grab lunch. Cranston noted that he did not know if that meeting would have changed the future, but he emphasized how much he enjoyed their time together both during the series and in the years that followed.

Cranston ended his tribute by urging anyone struggling to seek help. He stated, “I can’t stop there without imploring anyone who is contemplating suicide to please call for the support you need at 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. There is hope.”
