Dermot Mulroney is supporting the WGA Strike in a major way with a planned walk-off during an upcoming segment of The View, in which he was invited to talk about his role in the Marvel series Secret Invasion.
Mulroney has been a staple of the entertainment industry for decades, with roles in everything from My Best Friend’s Wedding and The Family Stone to The Purge TV series, and the most recent installment of Ghostface’s reign of terror in Scream VI. His staying power in Hollywood makes him the perfect person to support writers by using his platform to remind fans everywhere how vital their jobs truly are.
Variety first reported on Mulroney’s walk-off in support of writers, which will air during an episode of next week’s scheduled programming. Mulroney joined the talk show to speak about everything from his role in Secret Invasion to his family and career, and the publication explains that the entire walk-off situation was very respectful, with Mulroney even explaining his intentions to “symbolically walk off” early in the segment.
Mulroney shared the following statement with Variety:
“Since I have such respect for The View, a news program with a heart, it was there that I felt comfortable enough to draw attention to the ongoing WGA strike for fair wages and working hours, as I find it incredibly important to continue to support the union.”
His support for the WGA will undeniably be an important moment to those writers who have gone 50 days without resolution, and that’s only considering the duration of the strike. In all actuality, they’ve gone a lot longer without fair wages and working hours. Mulroney’s segment on The View is slated to air as filmed on Friday on ABC.
