Could Driver: San Francisco Be The Next To Use An Online Pass?

The gaming community is still coming to grips with the introduction of online passes. Using a code to play online has split us into two camps: one for the new change because it supports developers and those who are against it because it's restricting and adds extra costs to the consumer. Whether you like it or not, it seems like the idea will be with us for a while as it's the latest idea in the fight against used games, which make publishers and developers zero pocket change.

The gaming community is still coming to grips with the introduction of online passes. Using a code to play online has split us into two camps: one for the new change because it supports developers and those who are against it because it’s restricting and adds extra costs to the consumer. Whether you like it or not, it seems like the idea will be with us for a while as it’s the latest idea in the fight against used games, which make publishers and developers zero pocket change.

According to GamerZines, the folks at Ubisoft are going to be the next major publisher to include a pass inside of its popular video game. That game would be Driver: San Francisco, the car-swapping racer set to hit stores on August 30. If true, this would be the first time that the French publisher has gone this route, holding off for a while as a lot of its competitors dove in quickly. As of yet, there has been no official confirmation or denial regarding this rumor.

It’s expected that the pass will be referred to as the Uplay Pass, working like most other recent online passes. Cyberspace access will be locked until you implement a code found in a new copy of the game, or until you purchase said code unlock off of an online marketplace.

Let us know what you think of the whole online pass debate in our comment box below. I can tell you that I still don’t know what to think of it. Perhaps you can sway me off of the fence, to one side, with a well-written debate.
