Earlier today, Marvel finally released a full list of comic books on the way this April, and one of the most interesting reveals is featured on the cover of Star Wars: Darth Maul #3. The highly anticipated solo series for the iconic villain launches next month and it promises to delve into his past in the years before he squared off with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.
However, we now know that Darth Sidious’ apprentice had some history with a couple of other familiar faces from Star Wars canon, as Cad Bane and Aurra Sing, two fan-favourite bounty hunters from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, will also play a role in Maul’s story.
Written by Cullen Bunn with artwork by Luke Ross, here’s what to expect from Star Wars: Darth Maul #3 when it goes on sale.
• An evil crime syndicate is auctioning off a Jedi Padawan…
• …that Darth Maul plans to take — and kill — for his own.
• Featuring: a band of bounty hunters including Cad Bane and Aurra Sing!
Fans have been hoping for a while now that these two would make another appearance, whether it was in Star Wars Rebels or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That obviously hasn’t happened yet, but the fact that they’re being reintroduced in a comic book series like this should help raise their profile and increase the chances of some sort of return down the line.
Darth Maul is right up there as one of the more beloved Star Wars villains, so a solo series should be well-received by fans. Hopefully, it’ll do both his early years and those aforementioned characters justice when it touches down later this year.
