‘Has demons’: Laundry dispute leads to alleged fatal granny stabbing in Kansas

Before she died, she said he hears voices.

A devastating family dispute in Wichita, Kansas, has resulted in a murder charge for Isaiah Langkiet, who is accused of fatally stabbing his grandmother, Elvera Langkiet. The confrontation, which occurred on August 30, 2025, reportedly began when Elvera criticized Isaiah’s laundry skills.

Disturbing details about the attack emerged on October 2, 2025, following the release of a court affidavit obtained by local media, including KWCH. The document alleges that after Elvera, 64, criticized how Isaiah, 24, did laundry, he slapped her before retrieving a kitchen knife and stabbing her in the neck. After she fell, he allegedly stabbed her again before fleeing the scene without attempting to help. Police arriving at the scene found Elvera on the kitchen floor, bleeding heavily.

Isaiah had “demons” and “voices in his head”

Despite her severe injuries, Elvera was able to speak with officers, telling them that her grandson was troubled by “demons” and “voices in his head.” She also reported that Isaiah had expressed a wish to return to jail, although there are no public records indicating any prior incarceration before the stabbing.

Initially, doctors believed Elvera would survive the attack, but her health quickly declined after she refused further medical care. Due to an underlying lung condition, she struggled to clear fluids from her lungs, and her condition worsened, leading to her death three days later at St. Francis Hospital.

Isaiah Langkiet was arrested on September 2, 2025. He was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder, domestic battery, and violation of a protection order. Following his grandmother’s death, the charges were upgraded to first-degree murder. He remains in custody at the Sedgwick County Jail with a bond set at $500,000. A judge has since ordered a competency evaluation to determine his mental state at the time the alleged crime occurred.
