When The Flash was announced years ago, it was hoped by some the television series star Grant Gustin would make the jump to film after successfully bringing the character’s world to life for years. He did not, Ezra Miller was cast instead. While celebrities like Steven King sang the praises of the film after watching, no less than Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima stated his preference for the television show.

The iconic creator who interweaves bits of gameplay into the lengthy animated cutscenes he puts onto home consoles and personal computers posted the above yesterday. While he says he enjoyed the piece, he did give a backhanded compliment to it by noting it destroys old-school storytelling while calling it brilliant. Tellingly, he does not mention Miller, while Gustin gets his name dropped. In the comments, fans of the entertainer somewhat agree with his analysis while others are resorting to memes to mock his views.

Another fan adds seeing people get angry over a 59-year-old man’s thoughts on a movie produced for children is entertaining and in the quoted re-tweets, much of the sentiment is the same. Here, someone says Kojima is unserious while he adds he has issues with how Miller’s version of the character runs and another weaved in issues with his creative projects into their reply to him.

Right now, The Flash remains in theaters, though it’s dropping from silver screens around the world due to a lack of attendance. It faces long odds on the road to being a success; it currently has a 64 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and there is no guarantee it will get a sequel or see its star return. Miller has had a controversial turn with behavior lately, and, to add insult to injury, it may lose millions.
