As Ted Lasso edges closer to the end of its third and likely last season, it’s no surprise that some of the cast and crew are feeling emotional as they recall their final days on set. One of those is Dani Rojas actor Cristo Fernández, who told Comicbook.com all about his last few days on the show, as well as his hopes for another season of the hit series in the future.
Speaking to the website, he went into more detail:
“I know this is the end of a three season circle, but there’s always the belief, I want to believe that there’s more. But if not, I’m forever grateful with what we’ve created and the opportunity they’ve given us. I’m looking forward first to seeing the reaction of the fans with the end of this third season. Let’s see what happens. As I said, I want to believe, I hope there’s more.”
The man who plays Rojas also discussed how tears were shed on that final day, saying “It was insane. It was so many tears of happiness and we were all crying.” This was an anecdote backed up by creator, producer, and star of the show Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard:
“That last day definitely felt like graduation and everyone getting ready to leave campus and will we see each other again and such. I mean that in the most wonderful way. It was very sentimental. And them Brits, they’re not that sentimental, but ours were.”
The reaction seems sadly appropriate, as Jason Sudeikis all but confirmed the series was conceived with a three season arc, so Fernández probably won’t get his wish. However, he certainly didn’t rule out the chance of any spin-offs, telling Deadline:
“Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories. Again, I can’t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do. It’s really kind of folks to even consider that because you never know what’s gonna happen when you make things. The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue is lovely.”
And while he was clear the show was meant to only be three seasons, he did admit he didn’t reckon just how popular it would get, and that could just change his thinking:
The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.”
So it’s not entirely impossible we’ll get some more Ted in our lives, but it does seem more likely we’ll end up following the adventures of fan favorite Keeley, or Fernández will get his wish and we’ll see Dani playing across the world. However, as the show’s theme song says, “Yeah, I guess this might well be it.”
