Idris Elba navigates a sky-high predicament in trailer for Apple TV Plus’ ‘Hijack’

It gives of real '24' vibes, and we're so here for it.

Time to buckle up, action and thriller fans – because the debut trailer for Apple TV Plus’ next big series Hijack has dropped its first trailer. While it may not fill the exact thematic void that Ted Lasso is about to leave on the streaming service, it’s still looking every bit as entertaining.

The film will see Idris Elba as Sam Nelson – a passenger on a plane en route from London to Dubai, which, as the title suggests, gets hijacked. Nelson will be flexing his skills as a corporate negotiator in order to get himself and his fellow passengers to safety.

The trailer plays on the idea of the flight’s duration as a central theme the show will keep returning to, with a timer intermittently returning to the center of the frame, giving off real 24 vibes and has us half-expecting Jack Bauer to rush across the plane’s cabin at some point.

Elba’s character is seen sneaking around the cabin as best he can, getting into tussles with the hijackers, negotiating, and rallying his fellow passengers to ambush their captors by passing around a beverage carton with the words “get ready to shake things up!” printed on it. It seems like a hoot, to be frank.

Meanwhile, back on the ground, Sam’s family communicates with law enforcement about the special set of skills he possesses, all the while the powers that be grapple with a list of demands the hijackers have communicated to them.

Smack bang in the middle of a summer filled with blockbuster movie releases, Hijack’s debut episode will be landing (poor choice of words?) on Apple TV Plus on June 28, 2023. It also features the talents of Neil Maskell, Eve Myles, Mohamed Elsandel, and Holly Aird, among others.
