‘If you care for it, it’ll care for you’: Driver reveals her secret to getting over 300,000 miles out of a Subaru

Most cars don't make it this far.

A Subaru driver is celebrating an eye-catching milestone after pushing her vehicle well beyond what many motorists expect from a modern car. Her 2019 Subaru Outback has officially crossed the 300,000-mile mark, a feat she proudly shared on social media. The driver, a TikTok user known as @driverthoughts0, describes herself as a nomad and says the miles come from years of constant travel and life on the road.

In the TikTok video, she opens 2026 by filming her dashboard and odometer to leave no room for doubt. “Starting 2026 with 309,366 miles,” she says, panning the camera to show the numbers clearly displayed. The clip confirms that her Outback has comfortably joined the 300,000-mile club, a milestone many drivers never come close to reaching.

According to Motor1, the post quickly sparked discussion in the comments, with viewers reacting in a mix of amazement and admiration. Some were impressed by Subaru’s durability, while others focused on the habits behind the achievement.

Taking care of your car makes all the difference

The creator agreed with this point in another comment. When someone asked about her Subaru’s reliability, she said it only left her stranded once when an axle was installed wrong. “Extremely reliable,” she said. She added, “If you care for it, it’ll care for you.”

In a separate video, the TikTok user addressed complaints about warning lights on her dashboard. She explained the engine wasn’t running in that clip. The car was just in the on position. Many cars show all warning lights in this mode to check if they work properly. In another video, she shows the warning lights turn off when the car runs, except for a tire pressure light.

She posted another video explaining why her car might have lasted so long. She believes using premium gasoline helped. However, Kelley Blue Book says higher octane fuel doesn’t always extend engine life or improve mileage. Similar to how one woman’s car dealership visit ended, unexpected situations can happen with vehicles. You should only use premium fuel if the manufacturer says so.

The 2019 Subaru Outback owner’s manual says to use regular octane gasoline with a rating of 87 or higher. Consumer Reports ranks Subaru highly as a brand. The company recently beat Lexus and Toyota in studies about road tests, dependability, safety, and owner satisfaction.

Just as dealership tactics can leave customers stunned during major purchases, car owners are increasingly sharing their experiences online. Subarus are known for reaching high mileage easily, with some recording the highest vehicle miles ever.
