Jared Leto gets the Met Gala confused with a Halloween party by showing up in a huge cat costume

Not sure if this is the Met Gala or a football game.

Over its many iterations over the past several decades, the Met Gala has been known for some of the most outlandish and whacky looks in the fashion industry. This year, Jared Leto may well have missed the memo on what event he was attending.

While many of the celebrities at the 2023 event have had nods to the late designer and his cat, everyone’s least favorite Joker and Morbius star decided to straight-up show up in a ridiculously huge cat costume resembling Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette. While we understand the thought, Leto looks more at home as a mascot on the sidelines of a football field than he does at one of the fanciest soirees in the fashion and entertainment industries.

The next closest thing we’ve seen to an outlandish cat look so far has come by way of Doja Cat, however at the very least there was clearly some elaborate effort put into her look rather than just yeeting herself into a fuzzy mascot costume like Leto has. While the costume does look strikingly similar to Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, we wouldn’t exactly consider this homage to be high fashion. But then again, what do we really know about that world.

A couple of other Choupette-themed nods we’ve spotted over the evening include Chloe Fineman’s adorable cat purse, as well as Lil Nas X’s masquerade look with a diamond-studded cat mask. You can keep up with all of the outrageous cat-themed celebrity shenanigans and otherwise eye-catching getups at this year’s event even over on our 2023 Met Gala live blog.
