Despite there being a few more months separating now from the theatrical release of The Last Jedi, Marvel is giving Star Wars fans much to look forward to before then. And although today’s news won’t come to fruition until about a month before opening weekend, you have to admit that it’s nothing to shake a lightsaber at.
What I’m getting at is that fan favorite scribe Kieron Gillen will be taking over the flagship title as of issue #38, thereby filling the shoes of Jason Aaron. Yes, I imagine some of you will be sad to see Aaron go due to his consistently solid work, but knowing how Gillen has already amazed readers with his efforts on both Darth Vader and Doctor Aphra, it’s probably safe to say the book is in good hands.
But, if you need more assurance, here’s what he had to say about what’s to come:
“My aim’s simple – to do what Salva and I did with Darth Vader, but for Leia, Luke and Han. As in, chart the rise and fall of the rebellion between A New Hope and the Empire Strikes Back, how it changes them all and how it changes the universe. So a simple aim, but as nightmarishly tricky to pull off as dropping a proton torpedo down a thermal exhaust port. But hopefully as thrilling if we pull it off. I can’t wait till you see it up. First up: the post-apocalyptic hell that remains of Jedha after the Death Star punched a hole through its mantle.”
Sounds pretty ambitious, eh? Aside from everything just mentioned, you should also be happy to know that art will be provided by none other than Salvador Larocca, who’s no stranger to these titles and has been on my radar since his phenomenal run on Invincible Iron Man.
