Latest Fantasy News: A rare Netflix show that avoided cancellation becomes popular again as J.K. Rowling takes a shot at ‘Harry Potter’ trolls

Is Eden the next Netflix destination?

These days, finding a Netflix original that survives the axe is more difficult than finding a decent show to binge through while scrolling through the platform’s endless library. One rather obscure fantasy thriller has managed to become a rare exception, though, and is rising through the ranks to make the most-watched list in more than 50 countries, all the while increasing its chances of getting a renewal.

Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling is continuing to dig herself a deeper hole by taking jabs at the online community, or at least those inclined to boycott the new Harry Potter TV remake because of her insensitive remarks toward the transgender community.

Hollywood just won’t let Bram Stoker’s Dracula die, and every few years brings with itself the absolute certainty that the classic horror tale will come back with another unique spin. Now, we’ve learned that Eternals director Chloé Zhao is resurrecting the Transylvanian vampire for a “futuristic Western” outing, and Robert Pattinson is being considered for the Count himself. If these reports carry even a kernel of truth, should we start to get worried about Pattinson becoming way too immersed in that Dark Knight psyche?

It’s been a while since Harry Potter fans realized that the more they promote this franchise, the richer J.K. Rowling is going to get off of all the royalty cheques. That’s why when Warner Bros. announced a new television remake just recently, a lot of people immediately kickstarted a campaign to boycott it. As for Rowling, well, her response is to just sit back and sip on that rich people’s Champagne, which is to be expected when you happen to be the world’s wealthiest author with no care for how many people actively hate you.

This Netflix show is defying all expectations by making its way back to the most-watched charts

By every conceivable Netflix standard, Welcome to Eden should’ve been canned long ago. Fans have had to learn the hard way that the streaming mogul has no compunctions about canceling originals left and right as long as it serves their peculiar business vision, so why this middling and rather unpopular fantasy show has managed to avoid it up to this point is truly a wonder.

Not only that, Welcome to Eden is actually going for a momentous run in more than fifty countries, so the Spanish series might get that rare and unlikely renewal, after all.
