Longhorn Steakhouse will apparently put their parmesan crust on anything. One Florida woman’s friend decided to test exactly how far that goes

They actually served it

A viral TikTok video posted by @champagnemamii010 shows a cup of water with a thick, gloopy, and crunchy breaded cheese coating on top. The clip has gathered 1.1 million views, with many commenters expressing shock and disgust. At first glance, ordering parmesan-crusted water at Longhorn Steakhouse sounds like a joke, but apparently, the restaurant is serious about putting their signature crust on just about anything.

The parmesan crust is made from a blend of dairy and breadcrumbs, including ranch, seasonings, herbs, garlic, and parmesan cheese. According to Brobible, adding it to any dish costs around $1.49 to $2.95 depending on location. Longhorn Steakhouse first introduced its parmesan crusted chicken in 2022, and fans have been putting it on everything since.

The trend has grown so popular that the restaurant now has an entire menu section called Parmesan Crusted Favorites. For around $2, customers can add the crust to almost any dish, including a sirloin, filet, ribeye, or New York strip. TikTok users like @destroya91 and @thebernashiasilas have also been buzzing about its versatility and flavor, helping push the trend far beyond what Longhorn Steakhouse likely ever expected.

Longhorn Steakhouse’s parmesan crust trend is fun until someone actually drinks the water

Not everyone is on board with the idea. A Reddit user posted a photo of their parmesan-crusted water on the r/StupidFoods subreddit and revealed they actually drank it. “I can attest it did not taste good,” the user admitted, before adding, “I couldn’t just have it sit there on the table and not say I tried it.” The reaction from other Reddit users was about as you would expect,  a mix of laughter, disbelief, and some genuine disgust.

As for the Florida woman in the original TikTok video, she did not actually drink the parmesan-crusted water herself, it was her friend who decided to push the limits and place the order. The video sparked a wider conversation online about just how far the trend can go, with users sharing their own parmesan-crusted experiments across TikTok, Reddit, and Facebook.

Florida locals have been making waves online lately for all kinds of unexpected reasons, like a woman who discovered a dark hand reaching from her ceiling. Longhorn Steakhouse has seen its share of social media attention recently, and not always for good reasons. The chain previously faced backlash over a server allegedly scamming customers, and another incident involving a customer finding glass in her drink.

The parmesan crust trend, however bizarre, is at least a lighter and more lighthearted story compared to those controversies. Florida has no shortage of shocking stories making the rounds online, another recent one involved a woman who found blood all over her Airbnb only to be told by the host not to worry about it. It just goes to show that whether it’s unusual restaurant orders or bizarre travel experiences, Florida rarely has a dull moment.

The parmesan crust itself remains a popular add-on, with customers continuing to find new and creative ways to use it, wrote The Takeout. The crust’s mix of ranch, herbs, garlic, and parmesan gives it a rich and savory flavor that works well on steaks and other hearty dishes, though water is probably where most people would draw the line.

Still, the fact that Longhorn Steakhouse staff were willing to serve it says a lot about just how open-ended the option really is. The trend shows no signs of slowing down, driven largely by social media users experimenting and sharing their results. Whether it turns into a long-running menu staple or fades out as a passing moment, the parmesan crust has already secured its place as one of the more memorable food trends to come out of a chain restaurant in recent years.
