Los Angeles woman meets her Hinge date at the Santa Monica farmer’s market. 15 minutes in, one question ends it all

Not worth the extra mile.

A Los Angeles woman recently shared her experience cutting a Hinge date short at a Santa Monica farmer’s market after just 15 minutes, because of an offensive question. TikTok creator Mia, who goes by @morelikemii, posted a video about the encounter, and it quickly got over 3.2 million views.

According to The Mary Sue, Mia explained in her TikTok video that the date was her match’s idea. They had agreed to meet at 11:00 AM, and Mia left an hour early to account for traffic, arriving right on time. Her date, however, texted her saying, “I’m gonna be 30 minutes late.”

When he finally showed up, the conversation did not get any better. They walked around the farmer’s market, and she described it as “super awkward.” She tried to keep things going by asking him how his day was, but his response was very minimal. “He’s like, ‘this,'” Mia recalled, indicating he had just woken up. She spent “five or 10 minutes of that,” feeling like she was getting “no personality” from him.

Being late and making a rude joke about someone’s career is a guaranteed way to ruin a first date

Things got worse when the conversation moved to Mia’s career. She told him about her work, explaining, “I’m a professional dancer… I do content creation, and I do web design.” His response completely crossed the line. “He’s like, ‘oh, like a stripper?'” Dating apps have produced some wild stories from LA women, like this one where an LA woman offered $5,000 to find her love and ended up with a surprising result.

Mia’s reaction was immediate. “I literally look at him and I go, ‘don’t p me off,'” she said. She reasoned, “You’re already 30 minutes late for the date. And now you’re going to make stripper jokes about my career?”

Mia then decided to end the date right there. She told him directly, “I’m actually not having fun, and I wanna leave,” and then added, “Hey, actually, I think this date needs to end. Bye.” She walked away and chose to spend the rest of her day alone. “I’m gonna go and get lunch by myself at Elefante,” she said.

Viewers in the comments were on her side. One person revealed, “immediately he responded “this” I would have walked away😒” Another commenter appreciated her directness, saying, “I loveeeee how u told him and got straight to the point and left! very good” LA women have been at the center of some interesting real-life stories lately, including one where an LA woman faced an unexpected moral dilemma after receiving a random FedEx delivery.

Experts often suggest being honest about how an offensive comment makes you feel and giving the other person a chance to respond. But if it still does not feel right, it is usually best to leave. Continuing a date that is not working only wastes everyone’s time.
