Marvel cracking down hard on leaks leads fans to wonder why people care about spoilers anyway

There'll be a big CGI fight, the hero will win, the end.

Right now there’s a scared and hungry Reddit mod in a bunker hiding from Kevin Fiege. Of course, when you leak the entire Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania script you should expect no less, but why do people care so much about spoilers?

Marvel studios are on a rampage and it seems like they’re out for blood as the studio has filed a DMCA subpoena in an attempt to identify the individuals responsible for the leak. Who knows what Feige and his team will do when they find them, we’re thinking the death penalty is a likely and reasonable punishment for such transgressions.

But do spoilers really matter that much? There’s a heated discussion surrounding it, some believe that having plot points spoiled doesn’t actually affect the overall enjoyment of an experience and there is actual research to back this up. Twitter user @Java_jigga pointed out that people didn’t really care as much about spoilers 10-15 years ago.

That’s about the same time the MCU started in earnest. Coincidence? Maybe. But it’s a good point, the lengths some people go to to avoid spoilers is crazy nowadays. Whilst it’s great to be shocked by a movie, there’s plenty of examples of films being successful despite fans knowing how it ends. For example, the Star Wars prequels (spoiler: we know that by the end of it Anakin will be Darth Vader and Luke and Leia will be born, etc.). The same applies to Marvel – we know that there will be a battle and that the hero will ultimately triumph.

Whilst many users agreed with the original tweet, many disagreed and pointed out that spoiler culture has always been a thing.

Some just took the opportunity to rip into those who go out of their way to avoid Marvel spoilers.

To those who don’t let spoilers ruin their movie experience, the reaction by Marvel studios will seem like an overreaction, but for many, plot leaks can ruin a movie – although if you choose to read a leaked script you can’t really complain about it containing spoilers.
