Mica Burton reveals the LGBTQ+ representation she dreams of bringing to ‘Star Trek’ if she’s ‘lucky enough’ to

Burton said playing a bi character onscreen would be 'a dream.'

The Star Trek spin-off Picard introduced us to Mica Burton, who plays Geordi La Forge’s (LeVar Burton) daughter Alandra La Forge in the show (and just happens to be Burton’s daughter in real life). Burton recently revealed she would love to bring an LGBTQ+ love interest to the proposed show Star Trek: Legacy.

Burton, who is bi in real life, said she would be “honored” to play a part that was “visually bisexual.” Also, she said that whenever she plays a character on a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), the character is always bi, so seeing that onscreen would be “a dream.”

The push to make Star Trek: Legacy a real show has been steadily gaining steam. There’s a petition going around with almost 59k signatures asking for Picard showrunner Terry Matalas to continue the story in a new series.

“As passionate Trekkies, we crave a show that pays tribute to the Legacy era and carries on the story from the current timeline. Terry Matalas, a true Star Trek veteran, holds the key to rekindling the spirit of Gene Roddenberry’s vision. He’s crafted the perfect recipe for making the fandom soar once again, and we need him to keep the franchise boldly going by passing on his wisdom to future Trek creators.”

The term “Legacy” ostensibly refers to the children of the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast. It would pick up right after the events of Picard, per The Wrap. While it hasn’t been confirmed just yet, it looks like at the very least, things are trending in the right direction. Hopefully, we’ll get to see Burton in exactly the kind of role she wants to play.

Picard is currently streaming on Paramount Plus.
