‘Our communities are out of control’: Donald Trump finds one, singular, Black woman who wants to be saved

Trump is pushing the idea that some residents of Chicago have expressed support for a potential federal police intervention, an idea that the President proposed. A personal trainer and co-founder of the group Chicago Flips Red, Danielle Carter-Walters, stated that communities in the city are in a state of chaos. She described a widespread feeling of destruction and devastation, with people being forced from their homes by undocumented immigrants.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, as a resident of the South Side, Carter-Walters said she is living with the reality of the situation. She explained that individuals cannot even sit in their vehicles without worrying about being robbed, mugged, shot, or carjacked. She indicated that a large number of Black women quietly support the same political views that she holds.

Obviously, Trump jumped on this and said, “Chicago’s a mess,” and that the city would “be our next one after this… Chicago’s a killing field right now, and they don’t acknowledge it, and they say, we don’t need him.” So it seems like Chicago will be the next city that gets the armed military against its citizens.

Some local figures also support the President’s plan. The chairman of the Cook County Republican Party, Aaron Del Mar, called the situation a unique, once-in-a-generation chance for both Illinois and Chicago. He suggested that political considerations are getting in the way of progress and that the city’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, and Illinois Governor, J.B. Pritzker, should be thankful for the proposed help.

Robert Milan, a former First Assistant State’s Attorney of Cook County, also supports the plan. He recalled a past initiative under a previous mayor that involved sending a large number of police officers and the National Guard into high-crime areas. This earlier effort was successful in reducing shootings for a short time, though a lack of federal funding prevented it from continuing. Milan also noted that during that time, law enforcement, listening to gang members on wiretaps, heard them say they needed to leave the area because of the heavy police presence.

The recent violence in Chicago has been especially intense, with six people killed and twenty-seven others injured from shootings over a single weekend. One of the victims was a five year old boy. On a Friday night, two men were standing outside when a person approached on foot and shot them both, killing them.

On a Saturday afternoon, a young boy was shot in the head while inside an apartment, and he died a short time later at Comer Children’s Hospital. The combined opinions from local residents, political figures, and law enforcement highlight a deep division over how to address the persistent crime that continues to plague the city.
