Pennsylvania mom finds man asleep in daughter’s bedroom with his pants around his ankles

That's a rough way to start your morning.

On September 28, 2025, a startled Pittsburgh mother found a 23-year-old man passed out in her teenage daughter’s bedroom with his pants around his ankles. Reports say she fired warning shots into the ceiling as the suspect, Miguel Meza, fled the scene.

According to Pittsburgh news outlet WTAE, police say they were dispatched to a home in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighborhood around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a call from a mother who claimed there was an intruder in her house. Investigators say the mother had found Meza inside her 13-year-old daughter’s bedroom. He was reportedly asleep on the floor, partially undressed, with his pants around his ankles. The mother says his breath smelled of alcohol. Luckily, the woman’s daughter was not in the bedroom at the time.

Meza fled to a neighbor’s house

According to the criminal complaint, after waking him, the mother confronted Meza, yelling, “What are you doing in my daughter’s bedroom?” She then kicked him and fired two warning shots into the air from a handgun. Meza attempted to flee. He ran into the front yard of the home and sat on the porch, where he was intercepted by four bystanders who restrained him and escorted him into a neighboring house.

Police proceeded to the house next door, but initially no one answered. When the door was eventually opened, officers say they discovered Meza hiding in a closet under a pile of covers. He was taken into custody and transported to Allegheny County Jail. As of the most recent updates, Meza had not yet been formally arraigned. He faces a felony charge of criminal trespass.

If convicted of criminal trespass or related charges, Meza could face jail time, fines, and other penalties under Pennsylvania law. The mother’s defense may rely on statutory protections for homeowners or lawful use of force under threat.
