Sony has made an official announcement regarding its PlayStation Vita, in correlation to the handheld’s launch date for four different territories. The company announced that North America, the United Kingdom, Australia and Europe will all be receiving the much-anticipated device on February 22.

This huge piece of news was relayed as Sony Computer Entertainment of America President and CEO, Jack Tretton, spoke at the Web 2.0 Summit in sunny San Francisco.

Planned pricing structures were also revealed during the press conference. Here is what you can expect to pay for both models of the Vita in each aforementioned territory:

3G: $299.99 US, £279.99 UK, €299.99 Europe, $449.95 Australia

Wi-Fi Only: $249 US, £229.99 UK, €249.99 Europe, $349.95 Australia

One thing that was never confirmed is which launch titles each region can expect. However, Jack Tretton did mention that over one hundred games are currently in development for the device, at studios located around the world. This includes Resistance: Burning Skies and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Not to mention a suite of social applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Near and Party.

Given that the PlayStation Vita is region-free, there’s certainly the possibility to import one instead of waiting the extra two months after Japan’s launch. The handheld gaming system will be launching there on December 17, boasting a launch titles list which totals twenty-six. However, pre-orders are running out, as can be expected. If this is your intention, then you’d better act fast.
