First Red-Band Trailer For Curse Of Chucky

For anyone that's been a fan of the classic Child's Play series, such as myself, we've been waiting anxiously for the new installment, Curse of Chucky, to arrive on Blu-ray and DVD this fall. To pass the time, a new red-band trailer for the film had dropped that amps up the terror in a delightful fashion. It may only be a little over a minute, but it's enough time for us to see the return of the Chucky we know and love.

I think it’s fair to say that the series took a bizarre turn with the last two installments. Whereas the first three entries had been legitimate attempts at horror films, Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky played off more as comedies with horror elements thrown in.

From the looks of the trailer, it seems that Chucky is back to straight up terrorizing people alone. It is a bit odd that this trailer is labeled as red-band though as it’s not particularly gruesome in any way (is a plastic bag over the head really all it takes, or is the doll himself gruesome enough to warrant the extra precaution?). One thing’s for sure, that laugh is enough to bring about a wave of pure nostalgia for anyone familiar with the previous entries.

Just in case you were actually wondering what the film will be about, check out the full synopsis:

Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in tow to help settle their mother’s affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nica’s plans for the future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesn’t know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. He’s determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time he’s going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end.

Definitely sounds like Chucky’s up to his old tricks. After several years of silliness, it’s great to see this series getting back to it roots for what could be its first solid entry in a while.

Curse of Chucky arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD October 8th.
