Republican Congressman Tim Burchett from Tennessee went viral after he told a strange story about his pet rabbits instead of answering a question about Bad Bunny. A reporter in Washington asked him about the Puerto Rican superstar’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance. The topic has caused major controversy among conservatives.
According to the Independent, Burchett said he had no idea who Bad Bunny was. “Dude, I wouldn’t know if Bad Bunny walked up here and asked me if he could borrow my cell phone,” he said. He made it clear he really didn’t know the celebrity.
Instead of ending the conversation, Burchett told a story about his own “bad bunny,” a Flemish giant rabbit named Flop. He talked about Flop mating with another rabbit named Caramel. He said the old saying about rabbits is completely true.
The story gets stranger with an awkward family moment
The story got funnier when Burchett’s nephew walked in on the animals. “My nephew was like, ‘Uncle Tim, what’s Flop doing to Caramel?'” Burchett said. He explained his quick response was, “Go back in the house, dude. It’s not my job to give the sex talk here.” About a week later, Flop died of a heart attack. “I guess he died doing what he loved,” Burchett joked.
Burchett’s story was strange but light-hearted. However, it showed the serious political fight happening around the Super Bowl performance. Many conservative politicians are angry about Bad Bunny being chosen. His real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. This controversy mirrors recent Republican criticism of entertainment companies over their content choices.
The anger comes from Ocasio’s past criticism of the Trump administration. He has spoken out against deportation policies and immigration crackdowns. The Puerto Rican superstar sings mostly in Spanish and defends immigrants. During a recent Grammys speech, Ocasio praised immigrants chasing their dreams and called for an end to mass ICE raids.
The conservative response has been strong. President Trump called the choice “crazy” and “ridiculous.” The president has faced his own challenges lately, including controversy over his recent constitutional remarks. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem even threatened to put ICE agents outside the Super Bowl venue. The conservative group Turning Point USA is hosting its own “All-American Halftime Show” with Kid Rock.
Ocasio hasn’t backed down and has made fun of the opposition. When he hosted a comedy show last year, he told viewers they had a few months to learn Spanish before his performance. But his past criticism has been harsher. Last year, after an ICE raid in Puerto Rico, he reportedly called the immigration agents “motherf—ers” and “sons of b—hes.”
