Rumour: Total War: Rome 2 Announcement Approaching

For many, Rome: Total War has defended its position as the best title in the franchise since its release in 2004. The series may be capable of spanning the entirety of history, but a return to Rome is still one of the most requested directions for the franchise - and it's now rumoured that this is in fact part of Creative Assembly's strategy.

For many, Rome: Total War has defended its position as the best title in the franchise since its release in 2004. The series may be capable of spanning the entirety of history, but a return to Rome is still one of the most requested directions for the franchise – and it’s now rumoured that this is in fact part of Creative Assembly‘s strategy.

As captured by NeoGAF, the latest issue of Australia’s PC PowerPlay appears to suggest that a sequel is soon to be announced. Within the magazine, a page teasing the contents of next month’s issue shows a screenshot of battling Roman soldiers overlaid with the Roman numeral 2. It is nothing but a rumour at this point, but I can’t think of any other series capable of distinguishing themselves using only those two elements. The next issue of PC PowerPlay will be on sale July 18 to put the rumours of Total War: Rome 2 (if modern naming conventions continue) to rest.

However, perhaps we won’t be shielded from this one for quite as long as that. Creative Assembly, the developers of the original game, are due to appear at this year’s Rezzed exposition in Brighton on July 6 and 7, and an official announcement of Total War: Rome 2  is speculated to be part of their invasion plan.

The Total War empire has evolved a lot since Rome, and it will be interesting to see if the additions they make will manage to raise the standard and appease the legions of fans.
