Scheduled For 2013, Dead Island: Riptide Is Actually A Spin-Off

Unveiled earlier this summer, Deep Silver's Dead Island: Riptide is actually a spin-off project as opposed to a sequel. The game will take place in the same world as its predecessor, but will focus on a different area, although players can import their character from the series' undead debut. Furthermore, its digitized environments will be found on a brand new island, which may cause some canon concerns.

Unveiled earlier this summer, Deep Silver’s Dead Island: Riptide is actually a spin-off project as opposed to a sequel. The game will take place in the same world as its predecessor, but will focus on a different area, although players can import their character from the series’ undead debut. Furthermore, its digitized environments will be found on a brand new island, which may cause some canon concerns.

Instead of tasking players with using guns to survive an apocalypse that has taken root on an idyllic land, the companion title will ratchet up the creep factor by focusing on close combat scenarios. That should all come to a head during occasions where barricades must be fortified, as well as times where boat rides through zombie-infested waterways will have to be endured. Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the potential floods that fans of the franchise will have to worry about.

Oh, the joys of taking a vacation.

Dead Island: Riptide will be released sometime next year.

Thanks, Joystiq
