Senator just accused Trump of doing something ’10 times worse’ than his first term, and what he revealed is absolutely insane

He didn’t mince his words.

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy said that Donald Trump has committed “10 times” more actions that deserve impeachment in his second term compared to his first term. The Connecticut lawmaker disagreed with top Democrats who have dismissed calls to impeach the president. Murphy has become a leading voice among younger Democratic members who want stronger opposition to Trump as the party prepares for the 2026 elections.

According to The Independent, Murphy spoke with NBC’s Kristen Welker on Meet the Press. Welker asked him about former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s statement from late 2025 that Trump’s actions did not qualify for impeachment in his second term. Murphy strongly disagreed with Pelosi’s view.

“I know that this president has committed ten times more impeachable offenses in his second term as he did in his first term. He is stealing from the American people,” he said. He also pointed to Trump’s acceptance of a luxury private jet from Qatar and accused him of trading national security secrets to a foreign country in exchange for a $2 billion investment in his cryptocurrency business.

Trump’s corruption reached new levels in second term

Murphy called Trump’s actions “wildly corrupt” and said the president’s corruption and illegal behavior is “nuclear grade” in his second term compared to his first. Trump has faced accusations of using his position for personal gain since his early days in politics. Reporters noted that his properties charged Secret Service agents for rooms while protecting the president and his family.

Trump also hosted campaign events and fundraisers at his properties, including the Trump International Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C., which he later sold. The hotel became a popular spot for people wanting to meet with the president or his staff. Despite Trump’s New Year’s resolution for peace, critics say his actions show otherwise.

In his second term, Trump entered the cryptocurrency business, which brought in large investments from both American and foreign partners. Murphy’s comments referred to a $2 billion investment by the United Arab Emirates into the crypto company Binance using a cryptocurrency created by Trump’s family members. He also mentioned Trump accepting a replacement for Air Force One given by the Qatari government.

The House of Representatives must start any impeachment process according to the Constitution. Democrats are the minority in both the House and Senate, so successful impeachment would need a majority vote in the House and a two-thirds vote in the Senate for conviction. In December, two dozen Democrats joined Republicans to reject impeachment articles filed by Rep. Al Green of Texas, while many others voted “present” instead of yes or no.

Support for impeachment might grow after the 2026 midterm elections if Democrats win control of both chambers, but even then it would be difficult. Trump’s international dealings, including his plans for Venezuelan oil reserves, continue to raise ethical questions. Murphy said he respects the House’s decisions on this matter.

Any impeachment effort likely would not reach the Senate before 2027 at the earliest. Trump faced two impeachment attempts during and after his first term, both unsuccessful, though the second one had the most senators vote against their own party in U.S. history.
